RISK


Because we can never be fully in control of the effects of
what we feel, think and do --- we always take risks in
deciding what to feel, think and do.  Domineering people
try to be fully in control and take the risk of being
dishonest with themselves and each other in collusive
games of mutual self deception.  They pretend that they
can control much which cannot possibly be controlled.


It is risky to try to appear to be what in truth we are
not.   When we try to control our appearances, we try to
control how others perceive us and respond to us.  We try
to control other people like us, who resent anybody trying
to control them.  We risk alienation and all the
disintegrative consequences of alienation.


It is risky to behave in ways which undermine other
people's confidence that we can be trusted to facilitate,
promote and demonstrate personal and communal integrities.
Being certain that we are always absolutely right and
righteous --- is a risky business.
