Unbalanced persons do not maintain a balance among the domains of consciousness, giving exclusive attention to just a few of the essential domains of consciousness. The persistent neglect of an essential domain of consciousness leads to communication failures between levels of consciousness; and the person loses integrity. The dominance of a person by a few levels of consciousness to the exclusion of input by other essential levels of consciousness---is like cutting cables connecting components of a gigantic computer system. If communication linkages are cut within a person, the person will become less of a person. The communication linkages may be cut through neglect to use them, as well as through violence originating outside the person. The neglect may be motivated by external pressures, however. Thus we need to encourage each other to continually use all channels of communication---keeping in touch with all levels of consciousness, and excluding none: subconscious, sensory awareness, memories, emotions, intellectual insights, logical analysis, self-awareness, awareness of others, I-Thou relationships, bodily awareness, mental developments, spiritual insights, being, and doing; to name a few. It is helpful from time to time to take note of which domains of consciousness have recently been neglected--- and take action to revitalize those recently neglected. This is especially important in specialized societies that encourage excellence in narrow domains through emphasis upon competition toward superiority. Superiority in one domain in usually attained by competitors via neglect of complementary domains. People engage in competitive efforts to be the "winner" of secondary rewards, which have been built up to appear as primary rewards, which exclude awareness of personal fulfillment. Competitors focus upon a common artificial goal. Cooperators focus upon meeting each other's need through sharing of domains of consciousness, rather than through attempting to achieve exclusive rights to a prize. They way of love is cooperative, rather than competitive, whenever they are alternative ways. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
