We fear to let go in favor of an unknown which we cannot perceive as leading us toward greater integrity. Without faith and hope in an unknown, we cannot trust enough to accept meaning within totally new contexts. Thus we cannot let go of old contexts, no matter how unsatisfactory they may make us be. If death is perceived as having no meaning, we cannot let go to affirm it. Then we clutch at life so desperately that we strangle it. If life is perceived as having no meaning, we cannot let go to affirm it. Then we clutch at death so as to deprive it of meaning; we strangle death. When we perceive our alternative sources of meaning to be exclusive alternatives we destroy all chances, opportunities, for accepting meaning in their contexts. If sexuality is perceived as having no meaning, we cannot let go of a-sexuality/anti-sexuality fully enough to accept meaning in sexual relationships. As a result we deprive a-sexuality/anti-sexuality of their meaning by seeking to make them our exclusive sources of meaning. If only sexuality is perceived as giving us meaning, we can not let go to accept meaning in other alternative contexts. We let go of one source of meaning when we perceive an alternative non-exclusive source which we have faith will give to us greater integrity. So long as the sources are non-exclusive we can dance with all in a living rhythm. When sources are perceived to be exclusive we are constantly seeking to escape to a better ultimate source of meaning---because we cannot find hope and meaning in any exclusive source. If only exclusive sources are evident to us we must continue seeking integrity among the apparent alternatives. It is only when we let go of exclusivity that we become free to dance with all in a living rhythm, weaving between sources of meaning in meaningful ways which give to us all an integrity which makes us one in love.
