They tend to replace instinctual guidance with legalistic guidance based upon an analysis of the consequences of past actions. Due to emotional immaturity that analysis is often faulty. Fears block perception of essential facts. Biases lead analysts to systematically seek proofs of respected hypotheses as being acceptable, even though those hypotheses make people unacceptable. Repressions make the analysts unaware of significant perceptions and modalities of human relationships. Transferences lead analysts to perceive people through exclusively objective concepts. The technocrats' conclusions are faulty in proportion to their emotional immaturity because of their fears, biases, repressions, transferences, and trustworthy desires. Technically oriented cultures tend not to trust adolescent instinctual desires to explore each other's bodies, ideas, visions, fears, hopes, aspirations, and ultimate concerns. Instinctual desires to eat certain foods in various quantities are not trusted. Desires to set learning priorities according to instinctual curiosity are not trusted. In each instance there is a tendency to repress the instinctual desires and bury them under sets of technical substitutes which are judged to be superior because of their technical nature. Because of the exclusively technical desires of the dominant members of such a society---the natural consequences of these substitutions are not recognized nor properly analyzed. In fact, through the technical filters of such dominant people, the consequences of their inappropriate exclusivity are seen as confirmation of the correctness of their biased perceptions. Their perceptual framework involves deadly positive-feed-back-loop-effects. Positive, because the effect is to augment the extremity of the perceptions. Deadly, because the effect is to cause people to cease to live. Technically oriented cultures seek to free people from the risks inherent in being guided by instinctual desires. They train their members to fear their deepest desires as being untrustworthy. Introjection of such technical values into the depths of personality creates ultimate conflict within each persons---conflict which does violence to each person's integrity. That violent conflict finds expression in violent personal relationships which augment the use of technology. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
