In contrast legalism focuses upon the specific plays. The destructiveness of legalism originates in the inadequacy of the system of requirements/prohibitions in relationship to the variety of unique humane relationships which are possible to fulfill in love. Legalism cannot creatively anticipate all the possible expressions of love in unique situations and so cannot prescribe/forbid behavior in a universally helpful way. As an expression of technocratic concern legalism tends towards prescriptions regarding objective behavior, rather than towards helpful insights regarding and role- modeling of the possible range of propriety in meaningful humane relationships which are characterized by subjective knowledge, as much as by objective acts. Objective analysis cannot provide the insights or role models which people need as support for living lives of love; because love is not essentially objective. The focus of love is subjects, not objects; therefore the essence of love is in part subjective rather than just objective. Because morality tends towards objective statements, it can only define the boundaries of the playing field of love, rather than prescribe the proper relationships for given situations. Individuals cannot helpfully be given loving-orders --- specifying which relationships to realize and which to suppress. Loving relationships transcend the participants and so individual participants cannot meaningfully be held responsible for the relationships which realize them. Morality thus must respect the transcendent role of human relationships --- and not attempt to prescribe or forbid subjective realizations which individuals can not objectively control in any meaningful way. Morality can only make rather broad statements about the quality of meaningful relationships, and help individuals recognize the more likely perversions of love in games people play off the playing field of love. Helpful morality thus recognizes that the essence of the game is not objective, and offers objective in becoming aware of destructive perversions within subjective relationships. ==========================================================Lines beginning with a percent sign are KEYWORDS for use in ESSAY-System Searches.
