BEING RESPONSIVE is an ESSENTIAL FOUNDATIONS for
INTEGRATIVE COOPERATION --- for when people are not openly
responsive to each other they lack the information and
understanding which is essential to INTEGRATIVE
COOPERATION.
BEING RESPONSIVE TO other people is different than
BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR other people's: hopes, aspirations,
yearnings, desires, visions, dreams, fears, motivations,
experiences, attitudes, perceptions, assumptions,
expressions, relationships, and friendships.
We are NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR other people's: hopes,
aspirations, yearnings, desires, visions, dreams, fears,
motivations, experiences, attitudes, perceptions,
assumptions, expressions, relationships, and friendships
--- or for their salvation. People who are arrogant,
self-righteous, and intrusive --- think and feel
otherwise, much to the distress of many other people.
BEING RESPONSIVE TO other people entails listening to
them as they describe their: hopes, aspirations,
yearnings, desires, visions, dreams, fears, motivations,
experiences, attitudes, perceptions, assumptions,
expressions, relationships, and friendships --- if they
choose to share them with us. While listening we must not
be planning what to say next. BEING RESPONSIVE entails
asking others to confirm that the message we received is
the message that they intended for us to receive. Often
the message which we "receive" is more dependent upon us
than upon them --- perhaps with tragic consequences.
BEING RESPONSIVE TO other people is a key component
in BEING RESPONSIBLE; for a key part of BEING RESPONSIBLE
is BEING RESPONSIVE TO people who ask us questions;
answering legitimate questions and responding
appropriately in gracious ways to people who ask us
questions which are not legitimate; e.g., due to: privacy
considerations, false assumptions, coercive implications,
collusive undertones, etc.
BEING RESPONSIVE is central to the processes of
coordination which are essential to INTEGRATIVE
COOPERATION. When people are engaged in contentious
conflicts with each other it is unlikely that they are
BEING RESPONSIVE at the same time; for contentious
conflicts often undermine people's true security which is
enjoyed as the freedom to be safely vulnerable in openly
responsive and honest relationships.

CONFORMITY and DIFFERENTIATION
FOLLOWERS and LEADERS
The healthy community is neither stagnant nor
chaotic. In it there is both tradition and a gradual
process of changing traditions. There is a pattern of
ordered life --- within which creative people introduce
disciplined kinds of change --- which give new meaning to
old patterns of living.
In the healthy community laws create a framework
within which individuals express their creative abilities
to mitigate the tendencies for traditions, orders and laws
to engender stagnation and deadly conformity within groups
of thoughtless followers. In the absence of followers ---
creative leaders have little encouragement. In the absence
of stability which is facilitated by lawful order ---
followers lack the security to discern which leaders are
creative in integrative ways which transcend traditions,
laws and orders.
Health and integrity are encouraged and facilitated
by champions of complementary "things" which are essential
to integrative cooperation. They cooperate with each
other intentionally to promote both personal and communal
health and integrity. In healthy communities of integrity
leaders are not engaged in contentious disagreements,
conflicts or collusive games of mutual self deception.
Leaders respect each other and tolerate affirmations which
are occasionally excessive and/or extreme for the purpose
of exploring new ground. Leaders help each other recognize
such excesses and extremes as such and work to develop a
balanced and healthy synthesis.
