In revolutionary times it is often difficult to sort
out which ideals and values are integrative, and which
ideals and values are disintegrative. New contexts make
ancient wisdom, truths and paradigms no longer adequate.
It is not true that within all contexts convergent
thinking and universal consensus are helpful.
It is not true that within all contexts research and
publications which conform to traditional paradigms ---
lead the way to coping wisely with current dilemmas.
It is not true that all paradigms which pride
themselves upon being self-corrective --- do in fact help
practitioners be honestly reflexive when objectivity is
not appropriate and/or not wise.
It is not the case that revelations come only to
those people who, in disciplined ways, follow respected
methodologies and ways of publishing their findings.
It is not only in respected journals that important
new revelations and truths are published.
Often those people who are most in control and most
disciplined --- are unable to gain new over-views from new
perspectives through new modes of understanding. They may
be able to perceive only the kinds of realities which they
believe can be real; and not other kinds of realities
which are real and important in spite of their beliefs.
People who have trapped themselves in successful old
collusions --- may constitute a powerful minority which
stands in the way of young people understanding what is
important for meaningful survival in new contexts.
If young people do not understand the above --- they
are unlikely to search far and wide enough to find the
truths and wisdom which they need to lead powerful and
meaningful lives which fulfill their creative potentials.
