A need may not only never have been fulfilled, it may never have been recognized and acknowledged as a legitimate basic human need. Such an unmet need is unlikely to have either a formal communally affirmed name, or an informal personally given private name, by which to acknowledge the need in its presence. We may be in the presence of an unmet need, and be unaware of the reality and legitimacy of the need, knowing nothing of the reality, name, or nature of either the need or that which is able to meet and fulfill the need. Our unmet need may become realized and fulfilled for us within a communal context where we with others may witness the meeting and fulfillment of the need, coming to know the nature, legitimacy and name of the previously unmet need and its fulfillment. Unmet needs are not objective realities to people who do not know them, but may become objective in nature upon becoming familiar with them. They may be unreal because of participation in unknown collusions and taboos which deny them reality and legitimacy; so that they may not be met, recognized, affirmed, named, and known. To meet such unmet needs the collusions and taboos must be transcended. To meet unmet needs can not be a conscious goal because the needs are unknown, so to meet them can not be a technical problem with a technical solution. No means can be devised to achieve an unknown, unnamed, and un- described goal. Only through a miracle of the non- technical fulfillment of the unmet need can it and its fulfillment be met and known.
