Their consensus opinion can be mislead by their fears, desires or expectations. Their consensus may be uninformed for lack of adequate information and/or discussion. In the absence of needed information and/or discussion---consensus is unlikely to be reliable or wise. Social pressure to agree with conventional opinion tends to inhibit the flow of information and discussion which is essential to the formation of unbiased consensus. Taboos against the consideration and discussion of certain topics---make it impossible for victims of such taboos to form an unbiased consensus. To reduce bias and promote the formation of unbiased consensus we must eliminate alienative taboos and collusions. A collusion is a thoroughly biased consensus, a game of mutual self-deception which is earnestly and sincerely played by two or more people. An essential part of a collusion is mutual support in the belief that the players are unbiased by virtue of special attributes which they share; e.g., belief in the one true God, citizenship in the best nation, perfection in prescribed behavior patterns, highly sophisticated education, nobel birth, technological superiority, dedication to objectivity, correct doctrine, correct rituals, etc. Colluders tend to believe that any difficulties they may have stem from lack of dedication and effort---and so they tend toward fanaticism of belief, dedication and action. Believing that they have captured the essence of truth they can not tolerate diversity of opinion and are ready to coerce and destroy anybody who does not share their truth with them. They sincerely believe that their consensus is unbiased and they devise ways to convince any of their membership who has the slightest doubt on that point. Only people outside their collusion can clearly see how biased is their consensus. To transcend bias people need to perceive themselves within and relate themselves to their physical, social, economic, religious, academic, etc. contexts. Trying to avoid involvement in such self-referential activities introduces serious biases---and blocks the flow of essential information and dialogue. For this reason many scientists are unable to formulate an unbiased consensus---they exclude themselves from essential reflexive dialogue. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
