Such pure scientists regard themselves as asking more profound and basic questions than the technicians do. The technicians merely work out the details of the use of abstract laws of science which the purists discover. All that the technician does is implicit in the laws as discovered by the pure researcher, so there is little creativity in the activity of the technician. This purist perspective even goes to the extreme of the purist priding himself that there is no apparent practical use for the pure knowledge he has discovered---perhaps implying no responsibility for the consequences of such discovery, since the consequences could not be anticipated and considered in the decision to complete the research. Few pure scientists are well trained as historians, philosophers, theologians, psychologists, psychiatrists, sociologists, anthropologists, linguists, etc. For this reason few pure scientists can see the work of the pure scientists with any overall perspective and clarity. Most pure scientists are technicians who work out the implications of a limited paradigm, a way of approaching reality. Pure scientists rarely recognize that the results of their efforts are implicit in the attitudes, feelings, relational stance, and assumptions which they have thoughtlessly copied from their mentor; the paradigm within which they work. They do not examine their paradigm, they as technicians work out the implications of the paradigm through which they perceive all that they do perceive. In this way they are much like the technicians who work out the utilitarian implications of the "pure" scientists --- who work out the perceptual implications of the few people --- who have the imagination, courage, perseverance, and contextual support to transcend the dominant paradigms of their mentors---mentors --- who are profoundly threatened by such creativity and lack of respect for the traditional ways. Pure scientists as technicians participate in the professional collusions which inhibit creative persons who are ready to create new paradigms --- which will enable people to fulfill their personal potentials, as well as their technical potentials.
