We learn from our culture both perverse and humane sexual expectations. We are taught what to expect upon the violation of arbitrary taboos--- and often those expectations become self-fulfilling prophecies. We are taught how we should expect others to treat us if we act in certain ways, and oblige in behaving in that way toward others when they behave in the specified ways. To the extent that our sexual expectations are exclusively those interjected by our culture, we fail to fulfill our unique natures---we become but expressions of the past confused group consciousness of our ancestors. Traditional consensual perceptions serve some purposes, but they tend not to be creative and adaptive to new situations. Cultural sexual expectations become particularly perverse within an objective-casual society---for therein there is a tendency to objectify the cultural norms and regard them as objectively determined by factors which are beyond cultural change. Objective analysis is likely to be used within biased studies to verify cultural perspectives. The researchers are likely to be objective/analytic oriented---to the exclusion of personal concerns, and likely to be emotionally immature. Their approach to sexuality is likely to be from within a modality which will prevent them from perceiving and respecting essential aspects of intimate human relationships. They are likely to project their immature biases upon the subjects of their objective analysis---and find only what they expected to find. It is very difficult to transcend our deeply ingrained cultural expectations, collusions, myths, etc. Asking genuinely new questions and transcending traditional sexual expectations---is usually threatening to people with considerable power. The transcendence of perverse sexual expectations will occur only when we transcend the objectification of emotions and subjective realities. We need to learn how to accept various modes of relationships and consciousness, not demanding that all people conform to one "correct" modality. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
