Thus a corporate problem may be mislabeled as a private problem. When the origin of the problem is concealed it is difficult to solve it. It is even more difficult to solve a problem when one may reasonably expect to be punished for identifying the origin of the problem; i.e., pointing to the cultural powers that occasion the problem and it's repression. Such pointing may be a violation of a taboo maintained by a cultural collusion. A culture which maintains such private problems is likely to be beset with covert expressions of the frustrations which they occasion---and with guilt associated with such covert expressions which are in violation of collusive taboos. The existence of private problems occasioned by collusive taboos complicates the issue of privacy. We need privacy, but not to solve problems which require dialogue. When we are required to use privacy in unhelpful way we become confused about the nature of helpful privacy. The meaning of privacy is occasioned by how we use it. What is private within a culture depends upon the cultural use of privacy. When a culture represses certain problems into the private domain then privacy becomes the domain of consideration of those problems, whether or not such consideration is helpful or not. Corporate consideration of private problems is a threat to the culture which defined the problems as being private problems. The corporate body may be a small sub- culture, a fellowship cell, an intimacy of two, an intimacy of three, a corporation, etc. The violation of a cultural convention of privacy is likely to occasion pressures against the violators---if not overt punishment. Thus, those who seek to be helpful in solving private problems need to balance the risks of excessively public discussion of "private problems" over against the risks of keeping such "private problems" so private that they can not be resolved.
