Therein are formed our most basic conceptions of what is most real and reliable. Our destiny is implicit in our decisions regarding the trustworthiness of perceived realities. Our destiny is not explicit. It may not be explicated in words, as our destinies transcend human conception. Our destinies are to fulfill our unique potentials with personal integrity---potentials which are implicit in our childhood, become more evident in our youth, and fully manifest in our adulthood. Not all our potentials may be fulfilled. We must say no to many of our potentials, but our focus need not be upon the potentials to which we say no. To fulfill our destinies we need to learn to focus upon affirmations rather than denials. To focus upon potentials to which we are ostensibly saying no is to undermine our integrity--- diverting attention and energy from more helpful endeavors. Such duplicity is usually a sign of an unresolved conflict between claims upon us from without--- and our most genuine instincts, desires, needs, hopes, aspirations, and visions. Our destinies can not be fulfilled so long as such conflicts are accepted as being normal, for such acceptance leads to coping procedures which undermine our integrity and dialogue. Such sinful coping procedures need to be recognized as signs of dis- ease. It is our destiny to be at-ease with each other. Destiny has to do with the quality of life, not with the fulfillment of goals, objectives, and expectations. Destiny pertains to subjective realities. To presume to measure objectively the degree to which we fulfill our destiny is to pervert our awareness of our destiny. Such a perversion will lead us to abandon our destiny in favor of meaningless accomplishments which can be measured and compared. People who are unaware of their proper destiny tend to be insecure and feel a need to compare their accomplishments with those of others---presuming that their fulfillment can thereby be confirmed objectively. The profit-motive in a capitalist society tends to support such conceptions of our destinies; for such conceptions promote sales of presumed means to the fulfillment of destinies. There are no real means to fulfillment of destinies---because destinies pertain to qualities of living, rather than to destinations. (c) 2003 by Paul A.
