Love promotes integrity, unity. Love brings
dissimilar elements together and binds them together to
make a coherent whole. Love casts away whatever would
promote disorder through separation. Where frantic
activity and excess energy keeps interactions at a
superficial level, love promotes quietness in union. Where
excessive sameness generates mutual repulsion, love acts
to bring union through diversity. When rules operate to
promote exclusion, love's powerful forces ultimately
dispose of those rules to promote unity through
inclusiveness of all that may come together through mutual
attraction which transcends those rules.
The unifying power of love operates throughout all
space and time at all levels of size and distance. The
gathering process is observed objectively in the physical
world of inanimate and animate creatures and subjectively
in the realities of conscious and instinctive intimate
relationships. Objective and subjective communities of
all kinds illustrate the power of love to bring about
order through the mitigation of alienative factors.
Through the power of love the disorder of a community is
reduced by casting the disorder into the outer darkness
where there is plenty of room for it to expand and roam.
Members of the community thus become free to interact with
and know each other more intimately, and to include each
other in a whole which transcends differences by drawing
contrasting elements together --- excluding only the rules
and activities which promote separation and the breakdown
of mutual awareness and mutual understanding.
Love's power is not imposed from without through the
operation of enforced rules and regulations. Participants
in Love's power are acting freely according to their
natural inclination. Love does not generate an internal
tension between natural inclinations and external
requirements. Thus Love does not promote order through the
use of legalism which seeks to impose an order upon a
disorderly process. Love promotes order by working to
remove from a disorderly process that which keeps the
interactive elements apart, so that they cannot become
bonded in a natural way.
Love's power may be seen operating in the attractive
forces of nuclear, electromagnetic, gravitational, and
sexual attraction---generating locally ordered
communities.
