     Objective descriptions of  people's  behavior ---  of
necessity focus   upon their actions more than upon  their
relationships.  Deep personal relationships are subjective
and/or reflexive realities,  not objective realities.   To
attempt   to  describe   deep  personal  relationships  in
exclusively   objective  terms,  results   in   inaccurate
descriptions.  The abstractions bear little resemblance to
to the realities of which they purport to be abstractions.
To   a  large  extent  the  essence  of  a  deep  personal
relationship   is   unique   and   will   not   yield   to
generalization  and abstraction.   It  can  be  known only
personally,   not rationally or intellectually.   Personal
knowledge cannot be reduced to  representations which  are
exclusively  verbal.    Thus deep  personal  relationships
cannot with full accuracy be  represented  by  exclusively
verbal communications.

     Legalists   attempt   to   promote/control   personal
relationships  through  the use of  verbal communications;
rules, laws, regulations, policies,  moral codes,  ethical
systems,  diplomatic conventions,  etiquettes, etc.  Their
efforts tend towards  futility ---  because  deep personal
relationships    cannot   be   accurately   described   by
exclusively verbal communications---and legalists tend  to
be  dominated  by  and to dominate  others  by exclusively
verbal communications.    They thus  tend  to  focus  upon
people's  objective actions,  rather than upon the quality
of the relationships.   Thus  legalists  often  object  to
relationships  which  involve  what  they  consider  to be
objectionable  actions---even  though  the   relationships
involve  fully mutual dedications to openness and honesty,
and are profoundly  motivated by mature love.    Legalists
find  it  impossible  to  give due consideration to unique
situations and  to  the  subjective  realities  which  are
essential  to  an  awareness  of the nature of  a personal
relationship.   They define relationships  exclusively  in
terms of objective evidence.

     For  the  above  reasons,  legalism tends  to promote
behavior  which  is  objective  in  nature,   rather  than
spiritual  in  nature.   The victims of legalism thus lose
their spirits,  their souls.   They behave  as  programmed
automaton  in  conformity  with  the  best  rules,   laws,
regulations,  etc.,   which the legalists  have  conceived
