The spirit in which an action is fulfilled occasions the human effect of the action. People on the cliff-of- objectivity all share a common spirit; even though some are excommunicated for attempting to copy the behavior of those on the cliff-of-subjectivity. People on the cliff- of-subjectivity all share a common spirit; even though some of them are excommunicated for attempting to copy the behavior of those on the cliff-of-objectivity. The loving/suffering servants on the valley floor act in yet a third spirit---even when they are directly under (and therefore apparently behaving like) the cliff-people directly above them. The cliff-people can barely distinguish the behavior of the valley-people on a cliff, from that of the excommunicants sharing the same neighborhood of the cliff --- much less distinguish the behavior of a valley-person on the cliff from that of the same person when directly below on the valley floor under the overhanging cliff. The cliff people are barely aware of the existence of the valley floor, and often perceive the valley people who are under a cliff over-hang --- as if they were directly above on the cliff's surface. Thus behavior in the region of cliff over-hang may be characterized by four different spirits: (1) That of an exclusively oriented cliff-person, (2) That of an excommunicated cliff-person who is trying to become free of the home collusion by copying behavior seen on the opposite cliff, (3) That of a valley-person visiting the cliff, (4) That of a valley person on the valley floor under the cliff, but perceived as if on the cliff's edge. Cliff-people who stay away from the edge of their cliff are extremely exclusive in their orientation --- and cannot know much of the cultures on the opposite cliff or imagine the possibility of the valley culture. Excommunicants and valley-people find it virtually impossible to communicate with such exclusive persons because of their exclusivity. The behavior of such exclusive persons is characterized by a spirit not found in excommunicants or valley people --- it is behavior unique to exclusive persons. Valley-people on the valley floor away from the overhanging cliffs behave uniquely in open ways, but cannot be seen by cliff-people because of cliff-people's collusions. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
