Such a denial is probably prompted in part by the technocrat's emotional insecurity and associated need to prove self acceptable through technical competence; e.g., by providing fool- proof guides to proper behavior. Since most, if not all, people are presumed to be fools (without instinctive wisdom) they must be lead or coerced into following fool- proof guides to proper behavior. Instinctive self- interest is presumed to be narrow in scope and destructive, rather than holistic and loving. The technocrat projects upon others self's own basic orientation and denies other people the right to operate in terms of their own different basic orientations. Thus technocrats deny others the right to act according to instinctive wisdom. True wisdom involves a union of wholistic and analytic coping according to the prompts of sacrificial love. True wisdom is not calculating. It is responsive to promptings which transcend rational, intellectual and verbal thought and communication. True wisdom is responsive to instinctual knowledge, yet takes due account of analytic insights and ways of coping without surrendering soul to them. Wisdom has to do with decisions and actions, not merely with logic, facts, understanding, knowledge, and conclusions. Wisdom is essentially incarnate --- cannot be reduced to verbal communications. People are wise, not books. People become wise through intimate association with others who in their own ways are wise. A person cannot be trained to be wise. Training does not involve the level of deeply personal involvement which is essential to the growth of wisdom. Instinctive wisdom will not guide the behavior of people who are so preoccupied with technocratic considerations that they have excluded from consciousness sensations relating to their personal environment. People who have lost touch with their personal environment have also lost touch with instinctive wisdom---for the same reasons. They clutch insecurely to technical ways of coping, which, via a vicious feed-back-loop-effect, drive them further out of touch with their personal environment.
