They operate in terms of theoretical/hypothetical knowledge, rather than in terms of personal experiences and confessions of knowledge received through personal relationships. Uninformed criticism is often motivated by fear originating in taboos which operate without love. Such criticism does not in a loving way consider individual differences between relationships and situations, and passes judgement upon non-conformists, as if conformity was the highest virtue. The judgement and associated excommunication raise barriers to future communication, and so via a feed-back loop occasion future uninformed criticism. The critics who are uninformed cut themselves off from future criticism. The critics who are uninformed cut themselves off from information which might disprove their theoretical/hypothetical knowledge. As a result they attend conventions of like-minded experts and authorities, and listen to each other expound upon theories which have not been put to any test via personal experiences within a society dedicated to openness and personal confession within an emotionally fail-safe context. Those who presume to be authorities in some area of human experience should be subject to the test of familiarity with primary data. Such familiarity is impossible to those who presume to have the knowledge of good and evil. Through judgement they cut themselves off from familiarity with what it means to be fully human. They live in an ideal world of ideal forms which have no existential substance or meaning. The relationships between the ideal forms are relationships of their own creation---not independent of their hypotheses, and therefore not a test of the adequacy of their hypotheses. Citation of revered authorities is not an adequate substitute for the confessions of people who have in a personal way put the hypotheses to the test in real living. For such confessions to be reliable, they must not be motivated by any desire to prove or disprove the hypothesis. To avoid bias is very difficult, yet it is essential to the acceptance of the truth about meaningful intimate relationships among real people. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
