People who ultimately value universals (truths,
standards, values, and perceptions) tend not to value
particular individuals. Individuals are valued as
incarnations of the valued universals. Thus, unique
individuals are not valued, and so are excommunicated. The
natural consequences of the excommunication understandably
seem to confirm the judgment upon which it is based, and
the judges confirm themselves in their self-righteousness.
They see the universals as confirmed by the failure of the
unique individuals to achieve fulfillment. They do not
value mutual openness and honesty as of top priority for
life. In supporting their created universals via
excommunication, they excommunicate themselves from those
who would otherwise enlighten them. In the outer darkness
they realize their fantasies of conformity to their
created universals, and promote the alienation and
violence which they would ostensibly control. The loving
persons forgive them, for they know not what they do, and
need to be freed from the prison they constructed around
themselves to protect themselves from an untrustworthy
universe.
Because they have not known God as Love from their
birth through real people, they create God in the image of
their categories for analytic understanding and control.
In this way their universe becomes understandable, rather
than meaningful. The greater their mastery over their
environment, the less their mastery means to them. Their
ultimate success is thus meaningless, and their efforts to
understand this meaninglessness may well occasion their
suicide---as a confession of their failure to find meaning
through universals. They cease to live as persons, and
continue to function as biological automatons---programmed
to conform to traditional behavior patterns which they
helped create. Those behavior patterns become God for
them, and they defend their ultimate creation. The system
functions as a monstrous computer---with perfect logic
which is devoid of meaning.
Their strategy can end only through the miracle of
love breaking into their prisons and widening their
horizon to include meaningful human relationships which do
not conform to universals.
