Through fantasy we conjure up possible realities. Within a social matrix we then will seek to realize our fantasies. We find that not all fantasies can be realized, although more can be realized than we are willing to believe. We often tend to be realists who believe that reality was previously determined independent of our fantasies. In such instances we seek to conform our fantasies to our unexamined conceptions of reality, rather than seeking to determine if our fantasies can be realized. When fantasies are realized they become real. The new reality which will be judged by future fantasies. The ultimate reality is the nature of the process of interplay between fantasy and reality. Some regard the interplay between fantasy and reality as exclusively a process of selecting the fantasies which conform to an already determined reality. Such a view underestimates the importance of the role played by the participant as a unique selves, interpreting the unique relationships which create the self, and so self's vision of what is most real. Thus, people who tend to be exclusively objective in their approach to reality, discover it to be exclusively objective in accord with their prejudice. They do not discover the reality of reflexive personal relationships. Some regard the interplay between fantasy and reality as exclusively a process of realizing fantasies, with little regard for the significant roles played by factors other than the fantasies of the participant. Such a view underestimates the importance of the role played by the important others to the participant, and the role played by that which is other to all participants. An exclusively subjective approach to reality is not likely to have great survival value for this reason, even though it may occasion meaning to participants. Meaningful coping with enduring survival is most likely for those who recognize the partial role their fantasies play in defining the nature of the reality in which they participate. They are free to have visions, from which they may realistically select the most meaningful ones, to attempt to realize them through mutual awareness and mutual understanding of each other's conceptions of reality.
