It may be yielded from one enslavement to an alternative enslavement. It may be yielded from one enslavement to a way which involves no enslavement. In the latter case control ceases; there is no enslavement. Often religious leaders call for surrender. Their listeners hesitate out of fear that the surrender is to an alternative enslavement, one under the control of the religious leaders. Too often religious leaders have called for surrender to their creations: moral systems, ethical systems, ritual systems, governmental systems, theological systems, lifestyles, etc. Each regards their own creation as superior to other creations. Each invites followers to participate in an idolatry---within a collusion which sees the idolatry as the worship of the transcendent reality. Surrender to that collusion brings not freedom, but a new enslavement. Thus, surrender to the leadership of religious institutions is often yielding control from one enslavement to an alternative enslavement. In contrast to such re-enslavement, control may be yielded from one enslavement to a way which involves no enslavement. In such instances control ceases; there is no enslavement. Through liberation and reconciliation, freedom is increased. Self finds fulfillment in a way which transcends manipulative control; and involves no motivation to do what "good" controls seek to inhibit; yet does involve motivation to do what good controls attempt to guarantee. Such surrender is a surrender of the desire to guarantee "good" behavior. It is not a surrender to an alternative authority. It is a surrender of the desire to pass judgment upon human behavior. It is a surrender of all desire for the knowledge of good and evil. It is associated with a new dedication to openness which is expressed as Love in--- many forms. Transitory possessions are surrendered and a new life is found in the eternal now of I-Thou relationships within an objective environment. In surrender a person lets go. Lets go of hidden agendas. Lets go of manipulative techniques. Lets go of ulterior motives. Lets go of making ultimate judgments. Participants in ultimate surrender are equals and balanced in all respects. In letting go they become one in a relationship which transcends the sum of the parts, while bringing fulfillment to the parts. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
