This means that elders who are faithful participants in collusive games of mutual self deception need to be especially careful around perceptive young people; to insure that the children are properly indoctrinated in the ways and logic of their collusive games of mutual self deception. Special attention needs to be given to insure that there is at least an appearance of coherence and integrity in the teachings and ways of the community; else the dishonest but essential games will come to an end. 1. Authoritarian teachings and commandments need to be put into a class of their own which require no justification in terms of practical considerations. The "grounds" for respecting, honoring, and supporting those "grounds" must be matters of ultimate concern, beyond question, beyond critical analysis, and not tied to current experiences and perceptions. The interpretation of such teachings and commandments must be placed in the hands of reliable authorities who will not depart from the teachings of the faithful collusions of the community. 2. Members of the community need to be conditioned to feel that their own experiences, perceptions, and patterns of thought are not reliable; e.g., are prone to be misguided by the devil and his agents, or are corrupted through human weakness and/or original sin. The proper authorities should be held up for respect, honor, trust and support. 3. Members of the community who do not conform properly to the above considerations must be labeled as unreliable --- and kept away from positions of influence, power, authority, and leadership. Ostensibly good "reasons" must be presented for labeling creative non- conformists as unreliable. Such "reasons" may be well grounded in provincial confusions, ignorance, prejudice, and/or vested interests. 4. It is helpful to appeal to people's needs and desires for simplicity. Most people dislike having to deal with more than one or two considerations. They appreciate teachings and commandments which focus upon only one consideration, or at most two closely related considerations. They are suspicious of teachings and suggestions which call upon them to think carefully about a multitude of inter-related perceptions of how people, personal relationships, living things, and environmental factors ---are intricately interwoven in the web of life within Spaceship Earth as it travels through the cosmos. 5. It is easiest to lead people in terms of teachings and commandments which focus upon how and why members of the local community are "better than", "superior to", and/or "more blessed" --- than are the members which are outside the local community --- by choice or by exclusion. "Enemies" help the local community maintain patterns of loyalty, coherence, integrity, and faithfulness to the sacred collusive games of mutual self deception. When leaders fail to thoughtlessly attend to these principles of effective leadership --- the most creative young people are likely to fall away from the faith --- and learn to worship in non-traditional ways which are not faithful to the traditional collusive games of mutual self deception.
