Communal integrity falters when people expect it to be served by individuals who are seeking to get ahead and excel as individuals expressing individual freedoms to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Individual integrity falters when communities expect it to be served by individuals which are seeking only to protect their status quo, entrenched power, traditions, and officially sanctioned goals. Individual and communal integrity are inextricably interdependent. If one fails the other fails. If one faulters, the other faulters. Where is the responsibility to be put for maintaining the balance which is essential to the growth of both personal and communal integrity? In the hands of rich individuals seeking to get richer and more comfortable as individuals? Hardly? In the chambers of formal governmental councils seeking to consolidate their authority and powers? Hardly? This is a dilemma, not a technical problem. There is no technical solution to a dilemma. The resolution of the dilemma rests in efforts which are both individual and communal, corporate. But not corporate in the sense of a private corporation which is seeking to get ahead as an individual; rather "corporate" in the sense of whole, healthy and united as a cooperative community.
