Too rarely do we recognize, name, describe and deal
with the tragic feed-back loops of exponential growth in
the abuse of poor/powerless women and children --- which
engender increasing numbers of arrogant and self-righteous
"macho" men who perpetuate the cycles. The children of
the victims of one tragic cycle become the tragic abusers
in the next cycle. The numbers and levels of coercion and
violence increase from cycle to cycle --- except when
true lovers through individual and cooperative efforts
mitigate the abusive cycles.
Within highly competitive communities the focus upon
winning, superiority, and being "better" than others ---
is often so exclusive that there is little focus placed
upon humility, gentleness, reconciliation, forgiveness,
healing, and cooperation. Leaders and followers who
would otherwise excel in humility, gentleness,
reconciliation, forgiveness, healing and cooperation ---
are discouraged by the exclusive focus upon getting
recognition through competition, assertiveness, being-
better, being-superior, getting-ahead and being willing to
sacrifice humility, gentleness, reconciliation, healing
and cooperation.
Often people who are tragically unbalanced are
unbalanced in how they use and abuse otherwise "good"
scriptures, confessions, prescriptions, proscriptions,
laws, suggestions and admonitions. It is not only people
who can be abused in tragic ways. Ideals, values,
principles, hopes, and aspirations can be mis-interpreted,
used and abused in ways which lead to tragic outcomes.
The mis-uses, mis-interpretations, and abuses of one
generation are visited upon the succeeding multitudes of
generations because of the pain, anger, resentments, and
disintegrations of persons and communities in the early
generations.
