Leaders of communities and communities under their
leadership often seek to promote communal integrity by the
use of DISINTEGRATIVE commands, prescriptions,
proscriptions, taboos, rejections, excommunications,
punishments, coercion and violence. Such efforts lack
integrity and lead to both personal and communal
disintegration.
Religious leaders often arrogate to themselves the
right, responsibility and power to manage/control the
behaviors of their followers --- under the pretense that
they can thereby promote communal and personal integrity.
A careful consideration of the outcomes of the behaviors
of such arrogant religious leaders may reveal (to their
consternation) that their efforts often lead to both
personal and communal disintegration.
It is one thing to witness to what one has oneself
experienced, learned, observed, perceived, etc. It is
quite another thing to use coercion/violence to try to get
others to conform to one's own conception of how others
should behave. Open and honest witness rarely contributes
to personal and communal disintegration. Coercion/violence
often lead to personal and communal disintegration.
