We each have in mind an "audience" for whom we act out our lives. In the "audience" which we have chosen are the past, present, and future, people whose opinions count most in our lives. We care how they feel and what they think. We want to impress them favorably. Unless we are unusually careful, we are prone to choose for our "audience" a rather "select" group of people; people who are prone to agree with each other about many controversial issues. We play out our lives on imaginary stages in front of "select" and "exclusive" audiences ---because we want to think highly of ourselves through the egos of people whom we think highly of. If we play out the dramas of our lives in front of "select" and "exclusive" audiences --- we will be unable to Find Common Ground and resolve conflicts in any creative ways --- because we will have excluded from our "audiences" those important people whom we do not think highly of ourselves. We do not care what they feel or think! We are unwilling to take into account what they feel or think. We cannot resolve conflicts with them --- because we are unwilling to listen to, empathize with, or cooperate with them in finding "win-win" solutions to the dilemmas which we inevitably face with them, even if not face to face.
