Even the best informed/trained authorities differ with each other in regards to what messages are there to be apprehended---even in regards to the core stories about the central figures in the beginnings of Biblical history. The following have been used as guiding principles in terms of which influential people have read and interpreted selected scriptures: 1. God's commandments are always to be obeyed. 2. God is in charge, in control of history. 3. Disobedient people are punished by God. 4. The key to salvation is obedience of the law. 5. Nice people became great people. 6. The spoils go to the strong. 7. Great people often do not play fair. 8. God makes use of all kinds of people. 9. Central figures in God's story were imperfect. 10. Be fruitful and multiply into large families. 11. Respect other people's desires and needs. 12. Play the game of life strictly by the book. 13. Do not associate with non-believers/non-faithful. 14. Seek to be like God, perfect. 15. It is not for people to question God's authority. 16. Blind-certain-faith is better than doubt. 17. When in doubt trust those who are without doubt. 18. Marry your uncle's daughters to maintain purity. 19. Help the head of household have more children. 20. Do not question the authority of the powerful. 21. Show no mercy to the relatives of wrong-doers. 22. Help God to punish those who disobey God. 23. Leave to God all judgements and condemnations. 24. God makes good use of devious/deceptive people. 25. Be willing to sacrifice all to do God's will. 26. Do not question God's commandments. 27. Bad things happen to people who disobey God. 28. God uses evil people to carry out his will. 29. God's will is beyond human understanding. 30. God sometimes suspends laws of the natural order. 31. Human's wants/desires are unimportant to God. 32. Important questions are answered "yes" or "no". 33. Alienation leads to evil desires, thoughts/acts. 34. God works to bring about reconciliation & peace. 35. God is an angry God. 36. God is Love.
