Although transmission obviously does often occur in such ways, it also often occurs in ways which are not overt, explicit, intentional or verbal. To ignore the transmissions which do occur in ways which are not overt, explicitly, intentional or verbal is to be ignorant of the multitude of ways in which the transmission of ideals, values, goals, attitudes, beliefs, convictions and their like do occur in real life. Much is said and transmitted by the ways in which people do, and do not, TOUCH each other---literally or figuratively---in ways which are not obviously overt, explicit, intentional or verbal. In the previous statement the word TOUCH may be replaced by any of the following words or phrases to point to additional ways in which ideals, values, goals, attitudes, beliefs and convictions are transmitted: LOOK AT STAY WITH CONSIDER RESPOND TO LISTEN TO CONVERSE WITH AVOID DESIRE COMMUNE WITH MANIPULATE VIOLATE OFFEND NEGLECT MANAGE Transmissions of essential integrative cultural elements often occur in rituals which are either formal or informal, intentional or accidental, verbal or non-verbal, institutionalized or spontaneous, playful or serious, etc. Some cultures place great importance upon the children in the communities, upon their nurture and their care. Other cultures at their peril do not place much importance upon the children in their communities, nor upon their nurture or their care and cares. Much is said by how each community focuses the attentions of the members of the community through payments of wages, feature news stories in print, visual and audio news media, and communal rituals. When children are ignored or abused either actively or passively in such foci, the integrity of the community is in danger. Within such a community little that is of real value will be transmitted to the next generation, and thus the community and all that it stands for will disintegrate in ways which its members are unlikely to understand. It is in such ways which civilizations fall. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
