Were the block not there the person could move, but the black is in the way in which the person might otherwise move. Not all blocks are objective realities. Many blocks (or blockages) are reflexive realities such as attitudes, assumptions, beliefs, convictions, ideals, values, goals, intentions, etc. which mislead us and prevent us from growing in the ways which would be integrative and healthy for us and our communities. Objective blockages lead us to go around the physical place where they stand in our way. Similarly reflexive blockages lead us to avoid going and growing in reflexive ways which would be healthy and integrative for us and our communities. One of the tragic blockages which has mislead many, if not most, religious leaders is the scientists' blockage of narrowing attitudes, assumptions, beliefs, convictions, ideals, values, goals, intentions, etc. which focus people's attention primarily (if not exclusively) upon objective realities. A major example of such a blockage is the way in which many religious leaders have focused primarily upon the physical aspects of sexual relationships to the near exclusion of any focus upon the reflexive aspects of sexuality which have to do with true intimacy, honesty, balance, openness, integrity and health; or with addiction, codependence, collusions, control, confusion, etc. The blockage to human growth and development which originates in exclusive objectivity cannot be transcended by any form of scholarship which is dominated by the attitudes, assumptions, beliefs, convictions, ideals, values, goals and intentions of scientists, technicians and engineers. Such scholarship is unable to transcend the collusive games of mutual self deception which are played by compulsive objectivists. Such scholarship does not liberate and cannot liberally educate the next generation to be free of such blockages. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
