We need to regard with healthy suspicion those theories of evil which lead us to respond to the various threats to personal and communal integrity in unkind ways which promote unilateral, communal and/or mutual: misunderstanding, rejection, exclusivity, excommunication, banishment, ignorance, neglect, avoidance, fear, ridicule, derision, mockery, antagonism, attacks, discouragement, and absence. A truly integrative theory of evil will help us to respond to the following threats to personal and communal integrity in kind ways as indicated above: 1. Actual violence and pain inflicted upon self and/or others. 2. Threats of violence and pain which might be inflicted upon self an/or others. 3. Anger, resentment, and inclinations toward revenge due to threats and violence; real or imagined. 4. Selfish violations of laws, rules and regulations which have been openly adopted through democratic procedures by duly elected representatives of all the people; i.e., elections in which all the people could participate honestly without fear of reprisal within a democratic form of government which guarantees basic human rights to all members of the community. 5. Arrogant assumption of powers by a self-selected few people who seek to be in control (or appear to be in control) of the thoughts, desires, emotions, excrescences, perceptions and/or insights of themselves and others. 6. All forms of addiction and codependent support of addictions and addicts. 7. All forms of collusive games of mutual self deception in which people encourage each other to be dishonest in order to achieve desired fixes of self, others and situations. 8. Technocratic behaviors in which people respond to dilemmas as if they were technical problems. 9. Legalistic transformations of religions into tools used to manipulate the poor, weak, naked, hungry and imprisoned---by the rich, strong, well clothed, well-fed and empowered. 10. Paradigms which give little attention to the personal and communal disintegration which they lead people and communities into --- through dishonesty, neglect, imbalance, exclusivity arrogance An integrative theory of evil will not promote personal and communal disintegration; but rather will promote personal and communal integration.
