Such natural consequences we need to understand, respect and be guided by---in order to maintain personal and communal integrity. It is a different kind of reality when we are encouraged to fear human rejections, exclusions, alienations, and excommunications which are threatened as punishment of us by insecure manipulative people who fear that we might expose their collusive games of mutual self deception. Such human encouragement of our fears of rejections, exclusions, alienations and excommunications are disintegrative and do not merit our respect. The encouragement of our fears of such sorts is disintegrative because it generates distrust, suspicion, resentment, secrecy, pretense, dishonesty, repression and other responses which stand in the way of open and honest dialogue. The fear of being exposed as a dishonest participant in systemic collusive games of mutual self deception is yet a third kind of reality---the fear of honesty. When we have been led to fear honesty we are close to total personal and communal disintegration. When we fear honesty there is no way to know what or whom to trust, or under what conditions. We then put all kinds of fearful conditions upon our willingness to trust, and by being unwilling to trust we give each other fear-full signals that we are not trust-worthy. The fear of being manipulated by colluders, addicts and their codependent supporters is a fourth kind of reality. Such fear can promote personal and communal integrity if it is prudent, well informed and wise. It is not integrative to be manipulated by fearful people who are defensive because they are insecure. We do need to develop the spiritual skills with which to evade such disintegrative manipulation by people who seek to manipulate us by encouraging and manipulating our disintegrative fears. Not all fears are of the same kind. We will do well and be well when we know how to recognize the various kinds of fears and so be able to avoid being manipulated by fearful people who use fears as tools of disintegrative manipulation.
