Usually this does not involve overt lies and falsehood. It usually does involve encouraging each other to believe what each person would "like" to believe for reasons of "convenience", and discouraging each other from being dedicated to valuing and promoting openness, honesty, accuracy, personal integrity and communal integrity. Collusive leadership is mutual, subtle, tacit, covert, and implicit. Collusive leadership is only rarely unilateral, overt or explicit. Collusive leadership takes forms which can readily be denied because the essential aspects of collusive leadership are not objective; but rather are essentially reflexive. Collusive leadership reflects back upon each and every participant. Participants in collusive leadership cannot back away from what they are doing and see their behaviors clearly from a detached perspective---for dishonesty about themselves is essential to the continuation of their collusive games of mutual self deception which are hidden within the subtleties of their cooperative behaviors. The purposes, methods and costs of collusive games of mutual self deception must be kept subtle, tacit, covert, implicit, misleading and dishonest in order to maintain the appearance of personal and communal integrity --- while participants are in reality undermining any residual personal and communal integrity which may remain within the participants and their communities. The appearance of a dedication to objectivity facilitates the continuation of collusive games of mutual self deception. Thus scientists and technocrats have some advantages in the playing of collusive games of mutual self deception. They feel no need to be involved in truly reflexive activities to be true to the focus of their lives. For them the focus of their lives does not demand any overt or apparent dedication to reflexive purposes, goals or methodologies. Thus reflexive considerations regarding the details of their dysfunctional relationships does not seem to be important or necessary. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
