Ideals/values 2. Wants/desires 3. Expectations 4. Anticipations 5. Should/nots 6. Images/dreams. 7. Visions/fantasies 8. Fears/apprehensions Dissonance may lead to conflict which if unresolved turns violent in tragic ways. Dissonance may lead to descriptions of reality in relation/comparison to what generates the dissonance--so to understanding---and so to resolution of the dissonance. Dissonance may lead to commitments to resolve the dissonance to the best of ability, and to learn to live with the residual dissonance to the best of ability. Dissonance may occasion commitments to find who is responsible and make them pay the price for having created the dissonance---so leading many innocent people to pay the price of tragic violence for dissonance which existed only in the minds of a few manipulative people. Dissonance may occasion the person feeling the dissonance to conclude that responsibility for the dissonance is within the person; and so burden that person with the guilt and shame associated with that heavy responsibility. We and others will do well to examine carefully and talk openly and honestly about our experiences of dissonance, so that we and they may respond to dissonance in an informed and wise way. This will not occur unless we give to and accept from each other the gift of true security which is known as the freedom to be safely vulnerable. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
