They are not self-aware. They have no self- regard. Objects do not care how they are influencing other objects, nor vice versa. Participants in objective relationships are not emotionally involved in the emotional lives of the other participants; they maintain an emotional distance from each other in order to maintain objectivity. Emotional feed-back loops are blocked---to avoid receiving emotionally disturbing information. Certain kinds of ignorance are essential to objectivity. To maintain objectivity, emotional sensitivity must be inhibited. Extra-sensory perceptions are likely to bring information which will undermine objectivity. Through extra-sensory perceptions we may become aware of other persons' states of consciousness, frustrations, emotions, desires, fears, etc. Such awareness may lead us to become subjectively involved and undermine our sense of objectivity. People who are ultimately committed to objectivity must avoid extra-sensory perceptions which would compromise their sense of objectivity. This is facilitated by refusing to believe in their "reality". Sympathy and empathy tend to undermine objectivity, for they have to do with emotions which are subjective. They involve participants in second-order, third-order, etc. levels of interactions---which are beyond simple analysis and rationalization. It is difficult for people who are ultimately committed to objectivity to be genuinely in Love. To be in Love is not an objective act. To be integrated in to a community with integrity is not an objective act, because it entails many self-referential relationships. Many intellectuals are embarrassed by their emotions---because they have not developed an integrated way of relating their intellectual and emotional aspects to each other. Their commitment to objectivity is too extreme and exclusive to permit emotional feed-back loops to provide them with information which is essential to integrity.
