It is assumed that it is the guilty person who behaves differently to reduce the damage done by guilt; and that it is the duty of others to encourage the feelings of guilt---to discourage the unconventional behavior which occasioned the guilt. Guilt is viewed as the proper tool for preventing undesirable unconventional behavior. All guilt tends to undermine personal and communal integrity. Guilt entails the alienation of the guilty person from himself or herself, and from others. Guilt is the alienation of the guilty person from himself or herself, and from others. Guilt is the alienation which comes from rejection associated with negative judgments. In the absence of rejection there is little guilt, because there is no alienation. Judgments which are free of rejection do not engender alienation and guilt; they do not undermine the personal and communal integrities of those who are creative enough to transcend conventional patterns of behavior. Judgments must be made regarding the extent to which creative unconventional behavior does, or may, undermine personal and communal integrity. No matter how "good" rejecting of people may be, such personal rejections are evil behaviors which undermines integrity. Unconventional people who refuse to reject other people are far more integrative---than are controllers who enforce formal and informal rules and traditions by means of excommunications. The responsibility for the destruction occasioned guilt lies with all members of a society that regards personal rejection as a proper tool for promoting the integrity of a society. Such people contribute tragically to the undermining of the personal and communal integrity which they usually believe they are promoting. They do not understand what they are doing, and are in need of forgiveness, not rejection. Individuals and societies can not enjoy the full measure of personal and communal integrity---so long as they do not work to minimize not eliminated guilt, and to enjoy freedom from guilt and from the fears which guilt promotes.
