The trainer who instills fear in ignorant students -- - as a presumed means to make them learn --- is not a helpful teacher. The student who fears to be vulnerable by revealing ignorance --- blocks the elimination of that ignorance because of that fear of vulnerability. The trainer who instills fear of vulnerability blocks helpful learning. Helpful education occurs only in proportion to how fully students feel free to showing their ignorance in sharing their perceptions and insights. Without open and honest dialogue education is impossible, when students are fearful of being educed in ways which will make them vulnerable. In a coercive atmosphere students are not meaningfully educed, and so are not meaningfully educated. The vocation of the helpful educator is as much to create a climate which is free of fear, as to create information-rich environments. Enriching the information density of a student's environment can be intimidating and cause the student to be afraid to show inadequacies. Broadcasting sophisticated information can be a trainer's way of asserting dominance over students --- who are regarded as inferior because of their ignorance. Such a trainer may respect only those few students who survive in spite of a climate which makes them fear their vulnerability due to their ignorance. Thus a new generation of dominant students "mature" to become the next generation of dominant trainers of students. Their sincere efforts then promote the continuation of the fear of ignorance and the vulnerability which fear occasions within the climate which they perpetuate. The vocation of helpful educators is to break this vicious cycle of fear. The cycle is not broken by superior information, knowledge, or sophisticated technologies and communication systems. There is no technology which will serve as the means for breaking the cycle of ignorance and fear of the vulnerability --- which such ignorance occasions.
