They find it all but impossible to sympathize with those people who do not feel that objectivity is of ultimate importance, even though such people are more numerous than people who feel objectivity is of ultimate value and importance---to the exclusion of respect for strong feelings. Objectivity oriented scientists tend to feel that those people who feel that feelings are of great importance are too subjective to be respected. Such scientists tend not to respect subjective bases for making value judgments, and so find it difficult to own subjective bases for making the value judgment that objectivity is ultimately valuable. The subjective bases for feeling that objectivity is of ultimate value---are to be discovered in the subjective lives of the people who make such judgments. They probably have not had subjective experiences which encourage them to value intimate personal relationships and subjective/reflexive communications. They may have experienced threats, anxiety, fear, and other negative emotions in association with non-objective realities---and so are aversive towards them. They may have experienced certainty, security, order, and success in the realm of objective realities---and so tend towards activities in which they have had positive subjective experiences. We all tend to value relationships which are associated with our feeling good---about ourselves, others, and activities. Judgments about the values of objective and subjective relationships tend to be based upon how people feel---as much as upon objective analysis of objective data. How then are objective scientists to regard their feelings about objectivity? Is it possible to be objective about your own feelings about objectivity? Can a person divorce self from self's own feelings---in order to perceive one's own feelings without bias? Is objective self perception any more free of bias than is subjective/reflexive self perception? Is it logically possible to be objective about self without doing violence to self? Can self analyze self without violating self? Can theses questions be dealt with objectively and without bias? (c) 2005 by Paul A.
