The volition is a form of surrender. The purpose is not to accomplish a previously chosen explicit purpose. The intent is NOT to have an explicit intent which can be fulfilled through techniques. In such situations surrender is not necessarily a renunciation, a giving up, a reversal, or the like. A surrender may be more a transcendence of a traditional way in a way which includes the traditional way as a special case of the transcendent way. The old may be included in the new, but be free of the limitations of the old. Such a surrender involves giving up the arrogance of exclusive claims---the claims were empty and did not amount to anything worth keeping. To give up empty arrogant claims is not to lose anything, it is to become free of their debilitating effects. Thus a surrender of arrogant claims (or refusals) may in reality be to gain, rather than to lose. Arrogant people presume to define their identity on their own; they decide who they are---independently of any inter-dependence with others or other contexts. To receive a more significant meaning they must give up the claim of such isolated significance---which may intrude violently upon others in relationships which may obscure the degree of isolation. Violent relationships may occasion isolation. Personal meaning flows from social contexts, not from isolated personal decisions. Personal meaning thus flows form letting go---to participation in supportive personal contexts; rather than from skillful participation in mutually-manipulative competitive games which wear the masks of social propriety. Manipulators tend to be threatened by the temptation to let go---to participation in personal relationships and personal contexts which are not predictable, predetermined, controlled, intentional, planned, etc. Thus they can not know the meaning of deeply intimate personal relationships which inevitably involve whole beings, including their sexuality.
