Few healthy people deliberately choose to put themselves in situations where they will be the victims of violence. Situations which violate your integrity are violent. Situations which require you to pretend to be other than what you are---promote dishonesty on everybody's part and so require everybody to violate each other's integrity. Such violence is characteristic of collusive games of mutual self deception. Healthy people seek to avoid participating in such violent games. Scientists often participate in violent games of mutual self deception: Pretending that there is only one real way to perceive reality and so only one real reality. Pretending that analytic, objective, impersonal perceptions are more basic and free of bias; than are holistic, subjective, personal perceptions. Pretending that their way is the basis for understanding other ways, but not vice versa. Few healthy students care to play such violent and pretentious games, and so avoid situations in which success depends upon playing such violent games. Healthy students seek to be honest with themselves and others, and so seek to avoid dishonest people who are disturbed by honest perceptive students. They know that once you have lost your integrity---you have lost your self, your soul. They are unwilling to sell their soul for any short term advantage, to acquire any technique. Students often do not enjoy science classes because in science classes they are not free to be themselves, to be whole persons. They do not feel free to question the basic assumptions upon which scientists base their whole system. They do not see scientists are being interested in the history, philosophy, theology, and biases of scientists' activities. Since scientists are rarely as interested in students as persons---as they are in the content of their specialties---students find little reason to be interested in either scientists as persons or in the content of their specialties. When scientists put their specialties ahead of students as persons, the students in self defense feel that they must put their integrity ahead of becoming familiar with science and scientists.
