We do not need to have all of our needs fulfilled through resource consumptive behavior, even though we may need to have most (if not all) of our needs affirmed by close friends who can enjoy sharing awareness of felt needs. When people do not know how to affirm each other by affirming/sharing each other's felt needs, they will tend to compensate through efforts to provide for meeting all felt needs---no matter how unreasonable and resource consumptive such efforts may be. They will tend to seek improved techniques for satisfying needs, rather than seek ways to enjoy the sharing of felt needs in the absence of reasonable ways to satisfy the felt needs. Thus felt needs may motivate technocrats toward extremely resource consumptive behavior in blind efforts to be of service in meeting human needs. The chosen techniques may themselves violate human nature---quite apart from doing violence to ecosystems and limited supplies of natural resources. The good intentions of the technocrats do not compensate to their failure to understand human nature and human needs for need-affirmation apart from need- fulfillment. Trends to consume more and more resources each year per capita may in part be traced to technocratic attempts to satisfy human needs which need to be affirmed, but need not be satisfied in resource consumptive ways. Resource consumptive attempts to satisfy human needs occur in the absence of an understanding of human nature and human needs for affirmation, and tend to leave people unsatisfied---thus they so motivate intensified resource consumptive efforts to satisfy the needs. Technocrats can not see the futility of their way of trying to satisfy human needs, and intensify their efforts rather than seek better ways of directing them. They are like a novice driver of a car who upon seeing the car drifting off the road for lack of careful steering steps on the accelerator to try harder to do a good job of driving---thereby consuming more fuel in a futile effort---when more attention to direction was what what was needed.
