What are the characters of our priorities? Where do we focus our attention which tenacity? For what purposes will we make great sacrifices? What do those things which we consider to be most important have in common? We need to take care lest in our tendency to specialize we become unbalanced with regards to our questions, assumptions, presuppositions, kinds of realities---pertaining to our valuing, prioritizing, and service. If we become unbalanced with regards to valuing, our behavior will be unbalanced. Shall we ask where values reside? If so, where? In people, particular persons, personal qualities, groups of people, institutional structures, traditions of people, etc.? In objects, qualities of objects, what objects can do, what objects can be traded for, etc.? In abstraction, goals, principles, laws, policies, ideals, ethical systems, moral, systems, conventions, etc.? In elementary parts of whole realities? In relationships which embody and give place and meaning to parts of whole realities? Shall we ask about the persistence of values? If so; are they created, conserved, consumed, destroyed, used, growing, evolving, permanent, transformable, relative, denumberable, measurable, comparable, orderable, born, reborn, dependent, etc.? Shall we ask about our relationships with values? If so; do we serve them, or do they serve us? Do we depend upon values, or do they depend upon us? Is our meaning in them, or vice versa? Do we elect values? Democratically, representationaly, aritocraticaly? Do values elect us to serve them? To take a particular example: Shall we decide what abstract qualities are to be valued in teachers and then evaluate teachers in terms of how well they represent those abstract values? Or, shall we focus upon teachers who we in mysterious ways we recognize to have integrity and the ability to humanely educe students---and support such teachers as role models for students and teachers--- even though we may not be able to articulate in words what it is that we value in those particular whole person?
