Some kinds of inhumane behavior cannot be prevented through the use of laws; and an example of such inhumane behavior is the use of laws to block love. For this reason, it is legal to use laws to block love. Many people are legally blocking love's expressions---using laws to do so, and doing so within the bounds of legal propriety. The objectification of love leads to legalism which attempts to fulfill the law of love through objective behavior. Once love has been objectified, it is necessary to work to fulfill the expectations of legalized love--- ethics, morality, etiquette, etc. In the name of fulfilling love, it becomes necessary to prevent unpredictable spontaneous behavior which might undermine the fulfillment of the expectations of the law. Thus, in the name of love, laws are used which block the spontaneous communications which might undermine the rules which were designed to assure loving behavior. In this manner, spontaneous communication is blocked in the name of promoting communication---in th name of love. Love is legally blocked in the name of love. Only the law of love works against such violence. Legalists do not see the absurdity of legally blocking love's expressions. Love is not essentially a feeling, nor bounded by prescriptions regarding behavior. Affirmative prescriptions are not fundamentally any better than are prohibitive prescriptions. Motivations and feelings cannot be prescribed. Behavior which is occasioned by prescriptions is not equivalent to behavior which is motivated by personal desires and feelings. Prescriptions cannot motivate loving behavior because prescriptions cannot motivate loving motivation, nor occasion loving responses to love. Prescriptions tend to block communication, rather than facilitate communication. Required communication tends to be formal, rather than friendly. Thus legalists tend to block love even when they are trying to promote love. Their tool are inappropriate to the task of facilitating communication. Required courses in improved communication thus occasion the reverse of what is intended, for the legalism tends to block the love which would open up communication. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
