The assumption tends to mislead shallow thinkers into assuming that if there is no objective evidence of a difference between two subjective states, then it is wise to behave as if there is no difference between those subjective states. The assumption blindly ignores the fact that the great complexity of the brain makes it impossible to objectively and non-violently determine the differences between all the meaningfully different states of the brain. An attempt to make such a determination will most certainly violently change the state of the brain and so violate the purpose which was to be served. The assumption is self-defeating. The subjective-objective correlation assumption tends to mislead people into treating subjects whose objective behavior is alike---as if their subjective states of consciousness are alike. The assumption presumes that the history and the social environment of the two persons has been the same---when in fact one may have developed deceptive patterns of coping in which the objective behavior of the other person is copied for ulterior motives. One of the two may be behaving quite naturally, and the other be behaving in a fearful/calculative way. The objective behaviors may be nearly indistinguishable and the subjective states of consciousness be in great contrast. The difference between the subjective states of consciousness will become evident only in a social context which in a loving way promotes total honesty and openness. Scientific research into the differences between subjective states of consciousness is thus a farce--- unless it is conducted in a loving way which promoted total honesty and openness. If the subjects are subjected to treatment which is lacking in mutuality, the differences between subjective states of consciousness will not become evident---and any effort to correlate objective states with subjective states will be a farce. The use of the physicists' objective methodology upon human subjects to study subjective states of consciousness thus is likely to generate a dramatic farce which will most likely end in tragedy, even though it may appear comic to some.
