Evil is not an objective reality. Evil is an
subjective projection on the part of people who want an
objective explanation for misfortunes, accidents,
incompetence, imperfection, tragedies, etc. Such people
seek to identify an incarnation of a source of frustration
and suffering---so as to have a scapegoat to be sacrificed
in an effort to eliminate the frustration and suffering.
The injustices in their selections of scape-goats---add to
the frustrations and suffering which they ostensibly seek
to reduce. The use of the category "evil" tends to
compound the problems which the use of the category "evil"
is supposed to solve. The problems are real, but there is
no objective reality which corresponds to the category
"evil". The problems call for honest attention and loving
concern, not for categorization and scape-goating.
Love is self-sacrificial. Use of the category "evil"
promotes the sacrifice of scape-goats who have not
volunteered to be sacrificed. The identification of "the
evil people" is not a just process, because it is not
motivated by love; it is a process which is motivated by
fear which does not know love and so promotes
excommunication which occasion the conditions associated
with "evil". People who are the incarnation of "evil"
must logically by excommunicated in an irrational attempt
to promote a more closely knit community---because "evil"
people are presumably agents in opposition to Love---the
power unconditionally promoting open channels of
communication.
Some people avoid concentrating upon "evil" by
approaching the situation by indirection---they focus upon
"good" people, those who are not "good" by implication
being the "evil" people. This is a more positive
approach, but it does not avoid the generation of the
problems associated with "evil". The identification of
the "good" people is a process which leads to self-
righteousness and excommunication of "evil" scape-goats.
When the focus is upon the "good" people they tend to be
indifferent to "evil" people; indifference being the
opposite to love. Indifference involves less
communication than hate and animosity. The essence of
love is the facilitation of communication. "Evil" is not
a helpful category in that its use undermines
communication.
