Most students value their experiences more highly than they do their instructors' theories. Students do only that which they feel motivated to do. If their motivation focuses upon authoritarian external inducements, their learning is not likely to have genuine carry-over value in adult life, especially if the inducements are negative in character. The wellsprings of science students' motivations are to be found in their science relevant experiences of natural processes in human community. The traditions and taboos of western society inhibit intimate relationships. Self's perception is often put- down as of less importance than theoretical ensymbolments. More time is given to considering theoretical ensymbolments that to sharing of science relevant experiences. There is no surer way to judge what a person values than to take note of how he spends the limited time which is his finite life. Often theory is a given of science education and the role of the student is to generate science relevant experiences which validate the theory dictated by the instructor or text authority. In such instances it is not the student's role to invent theory, but rather to validate the authorities' theory. It is assumed that by following copycat procedures students will become creative. There is little if any evidence that the copycat procedure plays an essential part in the development of creative scientists. Science is a creative process whereby free individuals seek in freedom to structure their science relevant experiences in systematic ways which facilitate dialogue about those experiences. If the next generation is to behave scientifically, it now needs the freedom to behave scientifically---communicating authentically its experiences and personal responses to them. Only if the coming generation can now communicate authentically with the passing generation can there be hope that the theory of the passing generation will be helpful to the coming generation.
