With inadequate emphasis upon technical knowledge, competence and control---we are likely to become the victims of: 1. Sexually transmitted diseases, 2. Unwanted pregnancies and responsibilities, 3. Premature sexual bonding and commitments, 4. Addictive/codependent disintegration, 5. Tragic attempts to exceed our human limits, 6. Population explosion with all its consequences, 7. The risks of imprudent fantasies and passions, With compulsive unbalanced emphasis upon technical knowledge, competence and control we are likely to become the victims of: 1. Deadly objectivity and technocracy, 2. Addictions to manipulations and controls, 3. Unforgiving judgmentalism and legalism, 4. Alienation, misunderstanding and violence, 5. Emotionally dead and insensitive people, 6. Unresolved internalized conflicts, 7. Dishonesty and confusion about ideals & values. 8. Dishonest games of mutual self deception. No exclusive kind of excellence or superiority can save us from the tragic consequences one kind of emphasis upon what is essential to healthy living, at the expense of inadequate emphasis upon complimentary considerations of other essentials to healthy living. Specialization upon exclusive consideration of essentials to healthy living leads to disintegration. The fact that some considerations are essential does not mean that such considerations should be exclusive of other complimentary considerations. (c) 1997 by Paul A. Smith in "Search for Integrity and Honesty" (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy)
