An essential to integrity is cooperation among differing members of the community; not just among people who are alike, in agreement, in conformity with each other. This essential is NOT about being in agreement about all important issues, beliefs, values, ideals, and/or goals. Cooperation IS ABOUT NOT WORSHIPPING any issue, belief, value, ideal, and/or goal --- as if it merits ultimate concern and sacrifice; as if it were God. Cooperation is about not falling into the practice of idolatry. As a practical matter communal integrity is impossible without cooperation. Because personal integrity is threatened by an absence of communal integrity --- in the long term personal integrity is not possible in the absence of cooperation. As a practical matter, if we do not cooperate --- we disintegrate. If we do not cooperate --- there is a good chance that we are guilty of idolatry. We may be arrogantly sure that some one cause, goal, ideal, value, principle is of such great importance that it is proper to sacrifice both personal and communal integrity in the service of that one thing over which everyone is willing to fight long and hard.
