In the absence of commitments to balanced sets of
ideals, values and principles --- extreme loyalties to
friends, families, tribes, cities, states, nations, and
other exclusive preoccupations --- often lead to tragic
perversions of faith, hope, love and goodness.
Unbalanced loyalties lead to: exclusivities,
dishonesty, coercion, collusions, violence, terrorism,
tragedies, and so toward the disintegration of both
persons and their communities.
In the absence of complementary values, ideals and
principles --- otherwise very good values, ideals, and
principles are perverted through exclusive service focused
upon an incomplete set of values, ideals and principles.
Such exclusive service is idolatrous in that good values,
ideals, and principles are worshipped as false goods/gods.
Dishonesty is central to exclusive/collusive worship of
them.
Often what is most important is not to be recognized
in what is present, but rather in what is regularly absent
because of exclusive dedications to what is present.
Idolaters' exclusive dedications to false gods --- lead
them to systematically exclude any consideration of
complementary ideals, values, principles, persons,
incarnations, and embodiments of much that merits respect,
honor and support --- and so leads them to be agents of
personal and communal disintegration.
Beware of leaders to are unbalanced because of their
exclusive preoccupations with an incomplete set of ideals,
values, principles and role models. Such unbalanced
leaders lead in tragically disintegrative ways, not in
integrative ways. They offer false goods in collusive
ways which are idolatrous through exclusivity.
