Stories, dramas and operas such as those of Romeo and
Juliet, and Cinderella and Prince Charming point to the
collusive ways in which some communities lead young people
in tragic ways of dealing with their yearnings for
friendship, intimacy, cooperation, integrity and sexual
fulfillment. Such conflicted communities respond
negatively to threats to their collusive games of mutual
self deception; and lead their young people into
correspondingly dishonest coping technologies. Colluders
cannot respond positively to their children's need for
integrative guidance in navigating the risks of healthy
growth and inter-dependence. Colluders emphasize
prescriptions, proscriptions, taboos, commandments and
laws --- to the exclusion of being healthy role models of
healthy friendships, intimacy, cooperation, integration
and sexual relationships. The fruits are bitter and
tragic and are clear signs of the futility of the
negative emphasis.
