That which is whole is torn apart into pieces. Members of communities learn NOT to trust each other; but rather to gather into mutually exclusive: associations, teams, churches, and armies. People and communities which have enjoyed personal and communal integrity learn to fear intimacy in open and honest dialogue --- for such intimacy entails the freedom to be safely vulnerable; rather than security based upon invulnerability. Extremists' preoccupation with issues of control lead them to oppose each other --- out of fear of each other's differences which they are unwilling to become familiar with by participating in intimate relationships which transcend issues of control. About the only thing they have in common is their going to extremes in ways which fragment communities, relationships, people and environments. Extremists relate to people in ways which tear people apart by engendering within people many mutually inconsistent ideas, ideals, values, assumptions, beliefs and convictions. Since extremists are not dedicated to (or interested in) true conflict resolution --- they discourage conflict resolution. Open and honest discussions of differences and conflicts between people and between communities cannot be permitted --- for such discussions would undermine the false appearances which extremists are try to create and maintain. Conflicts are engendered WITHIN individual people, conflicts which are mirror images of conflicts BETWEEN differing people's ideas, ideals, values, assumptions, beliefs and convictions. Resolutions of those conflicts cannot be permitted for the same reason as above. Extremists naturally fall into playing collusive games of mutual self deception within evil relationships which are characterized by alienation from each other. The rules of those games dictate that: 1. Games of mutual self deception do not exist. 2. The rules of the games must not be revealed. 3. The rules of the games must be obeyed fully. 4. Dishonesty about the game must be concealed. 5. Nobody may be permitted to drop out of the games. 6. People who violate the rules must die. 7. People who die must appear to continue to live. 8. Participants must appear better than others. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
